Shamong NJ 08088 Homes-  New Jersey Monthly magazine ranked Shamong Township as its 6th best place to live in its 2008 rankings of the "Best Places To Live" in New Jersey rated by eight categories that best represent the quality of life in the state's 566 municipalities: property taxes, home values, population growth, land development, employment, crime rate, school performance and proximity to services.

The township’s recreational youth sports program, Indian Mills Athletic Association, is well supported by the entire community . During the summer months, many township residents, their families and friends can be found at Dingeltown Field enjoying a baseball game and the camaraderie found only in a community like Shamong.

Seneca High School, built in 2003 as part of the Lenape Regional District, serves families in Shamong, Southampton, Woodland and Tabernacle Townships. The younger children pack the playgrounds at Indian Mills Elementary School for grades K-4 (539 students) and Indian Mills Memorial School for grades 5- 8 (436 students).

With agricultural roots so deep, it’s not surprising that Shamong is home to a few of South Jersey’s best kept dining secrets. At Nina’s Cafe, on Route 206 below Atsion Lake, Owner/Operator Nina serves you fresh ingredients lovingly prepared in a casual, comfortable, Jimmy Buffet-like atmosphere. Pic-A-Lilli Inn, also on Route 206, is the “King of Wings”– a great place for a family meal or a night out with some friends for hearty food and great live music.

As for shopping? We have a WaWa, a Murphy’s Market, and La Campagnola--an upscale restaurant, and Russo’s Fruit and Vegetable Farm Market.

Preservation is a way of life in Shamong – whether it involves nature, history or community. The township has worked hard to retain its desirability as a farmland environment within a reasonable commuting distance to major urban amenities. It is the embodiment of rural and community life in the age of technology.

Shamong is one of a few municipalities that does not have a local purpose tax, and school systems have always done well. Development in town is fairly limited, so that keeps property values high. All of those factors play into it and it's a unique community.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township had a total area of 44.994 square miles (116.534 km2), including 44.392 square miles (114.974 km2) of land and 0.602 square miles (1.560 km2) of water (1.34%).

Unincorporated communities, localities and place names located partially or completely within the township include Atsion and Dellette, Flyat, Hampton Furnace, High Crossing, Indian Mills and Smalls.

The township borders Medford Township, Tabernacle Township and Washington Township in Burlington County; Hammonton in Atlantic County; and Waterford Township in Camden County.

The township is one of 56 South Jersey municipalities that are included within the New Jersey Pinelands National Reserve, a protected natural area of unique ecology covering 1,100,000 acres (450,000 ha), that has been classified as a United States Biosphere Reserve and established by Congress in 1978 as the nation's first National Reserve.] All of the township is included in the state-designated Pinelands Area, which includes portions of Burlington County, along with areas in Atlantic, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester and Ocean counties.
